This shelf takes its inspiration from basic structures found in nature. From the cell to the star and planetary systems, the universe is formed of elements in networks and interconnected materials. This design piece interprets and shows the fundamental structure of life, whether envisaged on a microscopic or macroscopic level.

Lithuanian-born, New York-based artist Zilvinas Kempinas had a love and fascination with the VHS tape and took that love to a whole new level. It’s mind-blowing. Kempinas created Tube, an 80-foot-long enclosed walkway that was created using the magnetic tape from old VHS tapes. Lines and lines of the black tape were stretched out creating a tube that is completely mesmerizing to look at – imagine walking through it! Now you know what to do with all of your old VHS tapes, right?

Through the language of trompe l’oeil, london-based artist Jonty Hurwitz creates anamorphic sculptures which only reveal themselves once facing a reflective cylinder.

The pieces are heavily based on mathematical algorithm where the π factor is integral - the distortion of the artwork projected is counteracted
at the centre of the pillar and a ‘sweet spot’ needs to be achieved through careful positioning to eventually realize the complete, recognizable object.

The work intersects the realms of science and art in order to enter the mind-bending world of illusion. Hurwitz will be presenting his
work at the upcoming kinetica art fair starting on the 28th of February, 2013.

The name comes from the word ‘Ori’ that means folding in Japanese, and also consists the word ‘Or’ which means light in Hebrew.

The idea behind Ori was to create a volume of light in a new manner and to create a new typology. The geometric cloud-like shapes are manufactured identically, however, Ori makes the user part of the process, giving him the opportunity to interfere in the final design and give it a unique shape. The shape can be changed time and time again.

The folding affects the shape when the light fixture is turned off and even more so when it’s turned on, giving the light many tones and shades. The light coming through the fabric also reveals the inner geometric structure printed on the inside of the fabric.

Ori is made of a closed pillow-like shape, when you need to replace the light bulb you just open the hidden zipper. The series consists of a pendant lamp, a floor lamp and a table lamp. The lamps are available for order through our website, and we are now looking for a manufacturer to take Ori into mass production.

Alessandro Isola and Supriya Mankad of I M Lab have designed the Eroded Stools, made from cork.

The stools were designed for a wine testing room in the north east of italy. starting with the form of a pure cube the seat is excavated from a block of cork. The excavated seat finds its way down the back almost like a liquid has been poured on to it and flows down finding and making its own path. Given the main purpose of the space, purred wine is a corollary. The excavated part of the cube are then clad in fabric.

Japanese studio Nendo has designed the Heel chair for Moroso.

“The line of the back legs and their connection to the backrest give this chair the silhouette of a spike heel.”
